Summit County Lincoln Day Dinner
(orginally published 3/25, 1:30 AM)
Saturday night was the previously mentioned Summit County Lincoln Day Dinner. I arrived just as dinner was starting, late arrival stemming from the Ohio State game. I heard speeches from Summit County Republican Chairman Alex Arishinkoff, State Auditor Mary Taylor, and Republican House Leader John Boehner. Basically I ate and heard people speak. The food was good. At the end of the dinner, the results of the straw poll were released. From memory, the results went something like this: Giuliani, McCain, F. Thompson, Romney, Gingrich, Brownback (mostly from "Students for Brownback" who packed a couple of tables), Huckabee, Hunter, Tancredo, Gilmore, Paul, T. Thompson, Pataki, Rice. I didn't know all day if I would vote for Romney or Giuliani. I decided last second to go Giuliani - now my support is on the record. My top three would have been Giuliani, Romney, and T. Thompson. I think at least half of my table voted for Rudy as well, but that is speculation because it was a secret ballot. I also want to thank the 9 other people at my table who had never met me before for being so nice and specifically the couple who "adopted me" for the evening. I won't embarrass them and mention their names. In a strange twist, I found out after I left my mom had one of their kids as a student awhile back. (Update: Here is the write up in today's Beacon).
Also in attendance was Mike DeWine, there trying to round up votes for McCain. I met him, but didn't get the chance to get a picture with him. As I was waiting to talk to Mary Taylor, I lost sight of him because he was so small, then I could never find him again. I also missed the chance to visit with Bath Township Trustee and my former principal Jim Nelson. I am fairly confident he would have remembered me, as I spent a lot of time in his office. There were a lot of big local names there, and it was a cool thing to go to. I have to give recognition to Mike Chadsey, the Political Director of the Summit County Republican Party for getting me at the literal last minute. Thanks, Mike. Below are some photos for your enjoyment. My picture of Boehner didn't come out well enough to post. The other photos I put up are slowing down the site. Tough times.

4. Mary Taylor with yours truly
5. Greg Oden jersey post dinner. Not worn to event. Wanted to, though.
6. Namesake of the dinner
All in all it was a fun event, and I am glad Ohio State played the early game so I could go. Over 1,050 tickets were bought. Boehner gave a very good speech. I feel like we are in good hands in the House with him in charge.

I can't believe that given a choice you chose RINO Rudy! But I'm glad you had a good time. It sounds like it was a fun event.
I hope that we at Blogs 4 Brownback can convince you to choose a true conservative for the GOP nomination. We'll try our hardest!
It was a fun event. Summit County GOP really has their act together. We had 11 Brownback supporters from Franciscan at the event. There was not too much time to campaign, but we had a good time anyway. Thanks to everyone who setup the event!

Ben you are becoming an operative in republican politics, this is scary
Giuliani keeps winning these things no matter where it is
Me, I am thinking a Fred Thompson/Rudy ticket could win big.
It's my Faith/Wraith ticket. Fred calls for a "Japanese Inspection" and Rudy oversees it. A win/win.
My wife is a NYCer (and a huge Yankee fan), but not a "fire-in-the-gut" Rudite.
Please don't say the food was good. The poor caterer could get blacklisted.
I would like that ticket as well, but as I have stated before, I dont think Rudy would be anybody's VP. Thats just my hunch.
I honestly did think the food was good. I was really hungry when I got there, but to me it was just like food you get at a wedding. I expected it to be very bad.
How old is Mary Taylor?
what is that albino rat you are holding while wearing your evening wear
Ben, good tie. Congrats making a presence at the event.
