Kucinich: Debates for President Fine, But Not for my Congressional Seat

This is something I should have picked up on earlier, but it took someone else pointing it out to remind me. Shameful on my end.

Campaign Spot: So Dennis Kucinich is irate at Hillary Clinton and John Edwards, for suggesting that he should be shut out of future debates, calling his comments "trying to rig an election." Unfortunately for him, apparently Kucinich ducked a debate from his primary opponent in his congressional reelection race last year. That opponent, Barbara Anne Ferris, couldn't be any more of a longshot than Kucinich is in this Democratic primary.

If my memory is correct, Dennis Kucinich also wouldn't debate Mike Dovilla, who was his Republican candidate in the general in 2006. This guy is so much less relevant than he was in 2003-2004; hard to believe, I know, but that is actually possible. Partly because he has been replaced by Mike Gravel as the cool fringe candidate, partly because his novelty has worn off. He is mad at people for not wanting to include him in the presidential debates when he has a 0.00000000000% chance of winning the nomination (he doesn't even raise money anymore) - but he won't debate his own underdog opponents here in Cleveland. Kucinich does not do local interviews where he might be criticized for never being here and using his office and his West Side constituents as a constant springboard for attention and notoriety.

At this point, I don't even care about his views. They are what they are. I feel bad for the people in his district who didn't vote for him and have to put up with his "representation" when he couldn't give a damn about anyone in the district. Oh sure, if a grocery store is going to close because of new WalMart, he might show up with his wife and preen for the cameras. That is about the only time you will see Dennis caring about the people he represents in OH-10. But don't leave him out of a debate with people who actually might have a chance to be President.

I wonder if Kucinich could have weasled his way back into Ohio politics if it wasn't for Martin Hoke (defeated by Dennis in 1996) and his blunderous two terms. Probably somehow.

And I was just starting to feel bad for Dennis, I forgot he wouldnt debate his opponent in his house race. I would love to hear his response to that fact. It is the one thing that never ceases to amaze and impress me how the pols. can be asked a question and never come close to answering it or better yet sound so good in their response until you think about what they said and realize it made no sense.

If Kucinich wasn't in such a safely gerrymandered district, he couldn't waste the time of those who voted him into Congress by running for President, TWICE!

I would never endorse a self serving politican like Dennis.

Kucinich is a perfect example of gerrymandering, Kyle. Happens on both sides, but that is who we are talking about. He would not survive in a competitive district.

Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio) also filed his presidential financial report yesterday, indicating $757,000 in contributions for the quarter and $213,000 cash on hand. Kucinich has raised $1.1 million since January.

Do you just feel bad for the people who did not vote for him or do you feel bad everyone in his District? I feel bad for them all sicne they don't have a Congressman anymore. I live in his District and besides a mailing we get oh so often from his staff he doesnot do anything to help anyone here. Everyone suffers.

Let me clarify and say that he does his constituents a great disservice by running a campaign that has no viability. I agree he should be focused on being a congressman.

Ben, I was trying to say that a guy like Kucinich is what gerrymandering is bad.
