I have been busy throwing together this week's Carnival of Ohio Politics. However, a new story is developing within the Ohio blogosphere this evening / Wed AM.
On Tuesday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer fired one of their newly hired bloggers, Jeff, who runs the Ohio Daily Blog. Jeff and three other Ohio bloggers put together news for something called "Wide Open" on the PD site. Here is Jeff's take on it directly. Another lefty site, Plunderbund is keeping tabs on reactions to the news. He has a ton of links, so there isn't a need for me to list them all, you can read them yourself if you so choose. The story circulating is that Ohio Republican Congressman Steve LaTourette (14th CD) forced the PD to fire Jeff because he has been a supporter of his opponents in the past and has written negative stories about him.
My take is that on the surface it seems pretty shady for the PD to do this. However, if there is more to the story, I would want to hear it. But if what Jeff says is true, than the Plain Dealer should reconsider whether or not they want to keep their "Wide Open" experiment going. No mention of any of this as of now on the PD site.
Excuse me, now I have to go eat Burger King for the fourth time in three days after not eating it since September 24, 2001. It was so bad I remember the exact day.
