Democrats win another Special Election, this time in Mississippi's First Congressional District. Democrat Travis Childers defeated Greg Davis. This is a bad loss, no way to spin it. None. Roger Wicker (appointed to Trent Lott's Senate seat) won with 66% here in 2006. The district has a rating of R +10.
Republicans have a chance to win this back in November on a full voting day (and they may), but this is as bad as it gets. Any other Republicans want to retire? Looks like we are looking at a combination of Pelosi and/or Hoyer leading the House for some time. Davis and Childers will square off again in November, as they have already been elected their parties’ general election nominees.
I followed the race at Swing State Project. Good blog even though they are lefty.

There will be more of this until some respected Republican leader has the courage to stand up and repudiate the Bush/Cheney/Rove cabal as faux Republicans who should never have been allowed to hold high office. The GOP is sinking into the abyss, Ben, and even those of us who lean to the Left of center don't want to see this happen.
"This is a bad loss" is an interesting comment. From my vantage point, it is nothing more than the folks finally waking up to the realization that they have been bamboozled by the Republican Party for way too long.
If wicker stayed in the house we wouldnt have had all these problems all these years
Ben, has KPR's favorite Senator Trent Lott lost his golden touch? He was a big Davis backer from what I have read.
